You don’t have to buy anything to play WoW Forever: it’s included with a World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time. The upgrade packs mostly matter if you want the new Skyborne race or got into the beta early.

What each pack adds

Skyborne Heroic Pack

  • The Skyborne race and their Zephras Isle starting experience
  • Early name reservation
  • Cerulean Prideclaw ground mount (you still need to buy riding skill in-game)
  • Cosmetics and Housing decor for modern WoW
  • One Invite-A-Friend launch code

Skyborne Epic Pack

  • Everything in the Heroic Pack
  • Beta access
  • 30 days of Game Time, starting 4 November
  • More cosmetics, pets and tabards
  • Three Invite-A-Friend codes

Warcraft Forever Collection (limited time)

  • Everything in the Epic Pack
  • Warcraft III: Reforged and the Forsaken Kingdom campaign
  • Forsaken and Human figurine Housing decor for modern WoW

There’s also a physical Collector’s Edition through the Blizzard Gear Store while stock lasts.

Our take

If you only want to play, you don’t need a pack. If you’re set on playing a Skyborne, the Heroic Pack is the cheapest way in. The Epic Pack mainly makes sense if you’d be paying for a month of Game Time anyway.

Check current prices on Blizzard’s shop before buying; they vary by region.
